Sober Spring Fling 2022
Malden Overcoming Addiction-Club 24 Spring Fling a great success!
This past Saturday night the first Spring Fling was held at Club 24 in Malden. Co-hosted by Club 24 and Malden Overcoming Addiction, the event was planned as a response to the cancellation of the past two New Year’s Eve Sober Nights, an event annually sponsored by Malden Overcoming Addiction and hosted by Club 24, but victim to Covid 19 the past two years.
With the arrival of spring and people needing to connect again, organizers set out to provide an opportunity for fun, food, dancing and conversation in a safe and sober environment; a success on all counts!
In attendance and showing their support by running the water bar (which was donated by Ward 5 Councillor Barbara Murphy) were City Councilors Chris Simonelli and Jadeane Sica along with Councilor-at-Large Craig Spadafora. Also there in support was Councilor-at-Large Carey McDonald, who led the way on the dance floor during the “electric slide.”
Malden Mayor Gary Christenson brought the greetings of the City to kick off the event and during a poignant speaking moment Malden Overcoming Addiction Board President Paul Hammersley presented his 19 year sobriety coin to his mother Midge who was in attendance. Paul had received the chip earlier in the day during a meeting at Club 24. Club 24 President Alan Campbell welcomed everyone in attendance and thanked Paul Hammersley and MOA for their continued support.
The event was supported through the tremendous efforts of Malden Overcoming Addiction members Gail Poirier, Linda Cochran, Pj Bell, Diane O’Brien-Goodwin, Suzie Jesalonis,
Kayla Ducharme, Casey Doogs, Dana Brown, Laura Squires, Mike Goodwin, Bobby Cee, Stefanie, Brian, Mario,Vern, Jennifer and others!
